STEWARDING THE EARTH'S RESOURCES

A resource for the church about sustainable waste management
One of the main ways in which we can all be better Stewards of the Earth's Resources is by the '3 R's':
- Reducing the amount of waste we make
- Re-using our waste
- Recycling our waste
The church can play a big part in this because:
- Churches are at the centre of their communities, and they can influence the way things are done by people in their homes and locally.
- Waste reduction, re-use and recycling are spiritual activities: the materials that we call 'waste' are all materials of creation that should not be 'written off' by us.
There is also a bigger picture in all of this
As well as encouraging us to Reduce, Re-use and Recycle our waste, local councils must manage and dispose of our waste and recyclables in a way that does the least damage to the environment.
At the same time, they must dispose of all waste that they collect and they must work within the financial and policy frameworks imposed by Government and by the marketplace.
Difficult planning and management decisions are made by local councils about new waste facilities.
This is a hard task, and local councils need the church's help.
This website is a resource for churches to be better informed about waste and the related issues of energy, resource management and reducing carbon emissions.
