STEWARDING THE EARTH'S RESOURCES

A resource for the church about waste reduction, waste re-use and waste recycling

One of the main ways in which we can all be better Stewards of the Earth's Resources is by recycling more of our waste - or better still reducing the amount of waste we make, or re-using our waste.

The church can play a big part in this because:
  • Churches are at the centre of their communities, and they can influence the way things are done by people in their homes and locally.
  • Waste reduction, re-use and recycling are spiritual activities: the materials that we call 'waste' are all materials of creation that should not be 'written off' by us.
Even if we have to take a bit of extra time to sort our 'waste' or get our hands a bit dirty, this is worship and prayer-time, not wasted time.

O Lord our sovereign,
How glorious is thy name in all the earth!

Thy majesty is praised high as the heavens.

Out of the mouths of babes, of infants at the breast,
Thou hast rebuked the mighty,
Silencing enmity and vengeance to teach thy foes a lesson.
When I look up at thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,
The moon and the stars set in their place by thee,
What is man that thou shouldest care for him,
Mortal man that thou shouldest care for him?

Yet thou hast made him little less than a god,
Crowning him with glory and honour.

Thou makest him master over all thy creatures;
Thou hast put everything under his feet:
All sheep and oxen, all the wild beasts,
The birds in the air and the fish in the sea,
And all that moves along the paths of the ocean.

O Lord our sovereign,
How glorious is thy name in all the earth!
